Every organisation wants an employee that is loyal to their business. In fact, hard-working teammates are like assets that follow your vision. They help you meet your goals. But how do you get such people in your team? Well, the answer is, every employee can be an asset, provided you offer an enriching environment to help them thrive.
Not sure how to create such a workplace? Fret not! This article expounds on ways to turn a dull, boring work environment into a healthy space that your employees will love.
Avoid Prying on Your Teammates
If an employee wants to go on a vacation, your response shouldn’t be, “We are swamped with work. So, I am compelled to say a no”. Rather, your answer should be, “Sure. Have fun.” If you really are facing an overload of work, it’s your job to ensure that the work is managed without hampering your employee’s travel plans. If someone is taking an off to show their friends around, you cannot say ‘no’. Work is just a part of your employee’s life. Ascertain that you give your employees the space to function efficiently in other parts of their life.
As a manager, you cannot demand for an explanation. What your employees do during their leaves is none of your business. If you don’t want to give your employee the time to unwind and relax, don’t give any. You are bound by law to provide vacation time. However, you will slowly see your team members slack off at work.
Figure Out What Matters
Assessing what matters is essential if you only want to focus on your primary goal. Once you have that, everything that takes you towards that goal must be perfect. In case you are thinking, perfection in everything is impossible, you can skip trivial aspects. For example, borders in the Excel sheet? Not important. Accuracy in numbers included in that sheet? IMPORTANT. Don’t waste your time on selecting the right font size, rather use it for something that’s more yielding.
Take and Give Feedback From Your Employees
When you take feedback, you must be prepared for both good and bad reviews. While most of your employees might choose to be as polite as possible, there will be some who won’t fear being honest. Now, what should you do with negative feedback? Ignore it? No! You must work on areas that need improvement just the way you expect your teammates to show gradual growth. Similarly, make it a point to give feedback to your employees. Instead of highlighting weak points during the yearly performance review, offer feedback as and when required.
Don’t Make Besties in Office
Though we need to create a bond as strong as family, avoid making best friends at work. As a manager and/or HR representative, you need to be impartial with everyone in the organisation. Some employees might be extroverts who join you for dinners and parties. But there will also be people in your team who would rather go home and relax with their family. That doesn’t mean the outgoing ones deserve better opportunities, right? Hence, avoid making best friends to be unbiased with your team members.
Create a Fun Workplace
If you want your employees to enjoy working, there are multiple things that foster creativity. One of the effortless ways to make your office loveable is allowing your employees to decorate their desk as per their wish.
